The Commercial Record
The Commercial Record’s roots can be traced back to when the Saugatuck Commercial began publishing in July 1868 by
Dr. A.H. Patteel. Over the next decade, it would go through a variety of publishers and titles, including
The Lake Shore Commercial and The Commercial. Then, in the early 1890s, the previous editor of the Commercial,
Charles M. Winslow founded the Douglas Weekly Record. In 1902 the Commercial merged with the Record to form the
Commercial Record. The first edition was published on Apr. 11, 1902, by W.P. Dunton.
Today, the Commercial Record remains dedicated to providing news and advertising to the lakeshore communities of
Saugatuck, Douglas, and Glenn.
